Podcast: From Startup to Real World Innovation

Alex Reed on Entrepreneurship and the Role of ARGEN Technology in Advancing Biopharma Research

Alex Reed, President & COO of Yokogawa Fluence Analytics, joined host Ira Pastor on the Progress, Potential, and Possibilities Podcast to share his entrepreneurial journey and the founding story of Fluence Analytics. He highlighted the company’s ARGEN technology, which provides real-time insights into how biopharmaceuticals respond to stress factors like temperature changes or stirring.

Capabilities of the ARGEN technology include independent, multi-sample stability analysis, accelerated formulation development efforts, and real-time, in-situ aggregation detection. Using static light scattering, it can detect subtle molecular weight changes, signaling early aggregation or instability that conventional methods might overlook. The instrument also simulates manufacturing stressors—such as temperature fluctuations, shear forces, and agitation—to predict real-world performance. Additionally, the ARGEN technology supports long-term stability testing at temperatures as low as ~3 °C, a crucial function for determining product shelf life and optimal storage conditions.

Watch the interview below to learn more about the journey of Yokogawa Fluence Analytics from an idea, to a venture capital backed startup, to an acquisition by a global corporation.
